Record the product installation values
Note board direction, maximum joist centres, side and end gaps, overhang, pre-drilling, clips or screws, ventilation and installation-temperature conditions. Select the row that matches your layout.
These numbers are manufacturer specifications or designed system values, not universal dimensions.
Draw the board layout and cuts
- 1Boards
- 2Gap between boards
- 3Length to cover
Choose board direction and place end joints, obstacles and visible edges. Avoid small offcuts that cannot be fixed and include any double joists or framing required at joints.

- 2Pedestals
- 3Centre-to-centre grid
Verify square, joist centres, support under every board end, stability and drainage. Install the planned trimmers before boarding; a fastener cannot make an unstable joist sound.

Enter usable width, gap, stock length and a justified allowance. The result is a theoretical minimum assuming favourable reuse of offcuts: prepare the cutting plan separately and take fastener requirements from the product instructions.
Calculate boards, joists and timber screwsTesCalculs→Align and fix the first section
Set a perfectly straight datum and use suitable spacers. Do not overtighten clips or lock intended movement; pre-drill and locate screws as required for the board or profile.
Complete end joints, edges and obstacles
Support each board end as specified, maintain gaps around walls and posts, then trim edges to a clean line. Fascias must not obstruct ventilation or drainage.
End gaps depend on factors such as material, board length and installation conditions. Measure temperature or moisture where the instructions use it to select a value.
Carry out the final inspection
Inspect every fixing, replace damaged boards and check alignment, stability, sharp edges, movement gaps and access to outlets. Keep the installation guide and batch references for future maintenance.
